hammerhead

party

For Jack’s 6th birthday, he asked for a hammerhead shark party. Since we’re still not seeing anyone outside of our house, the party was pretty small and simple again, but we wanted to have crafts, games, and activities to make it a fun day for our kids.

For decorations, we just used light blue, dark blue, and silver streamers, shiny blue backdrops bought at Target, a large hammerhead shark balloon (from Party Fair), and I drew some hammerhead sharks with a balloon on our kitchen’s chalkboard.

After breakfast, the kids all colored hammerhead headbands (found on Pinterest), which they wore for the rest of the party. I had also found hammerhead shirts at Target for only $10 each, so I bought one for each of our kids to wear for the day. Once in their party attire, our first activity was to paint wooden hammerhead sharks that Anthony had cut out.

We put out all of Jack’s favorite snack foods (and smoothies) for lunch, and then the boys followed some scavenger hunt clues/hammerhead facts that led them to their hammerhead goodie bags. They also got to “adopt” a hammerhead (each wearing his/her own party hat)! We played pin the fin on the hammerhead (I just drew this hammerhead (minus the top fin) on paper, taped it to the wall, and then cut out some fins to “pin” (really tape) on. The last big activity of the day was hammerhead bean bag toss. We always have a ton of scrap wood laying around our garage, so I sketched a quick hammerhead face and mouth, Anthony cut it out using a jig saw, and then I painted it. We already had some bean bags, so it was a quick DIY game to add to the party. I realized after the fact that it could have doubled as a photo-booth with the kids taking their pictures with their faces in the mouth…missed opportunity!

After all of the crafts/games/activities, Jack opened his gifts, we had pizza and cake, and then we all sat down to watch a movie on hammerhead sharks to wrap up the evening!
